The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I don't give any book five stars unless it's either written by God or David McCullough. I owe soooo much to this book, and its predecessor Epic Content Marketing.

These books helped me turn my tiny one-man agency into a global marketing agency because instead of "just writing articles" I leveraged my writing for Forbes into writing for Mashable, TechCrunch, Entrepreneur, and 10 other pubs, started doing video marketing, and when I moved to Shenzhen, China to open our newest office I remembered the part of this book that talked about starting and event series as a form of content marketing and we just made it happen this last weekend with our first event, the China Marketing Summit, which attracted attendees with no website, pretty much just word of mouth marketing, and all in about two months from concept to execution.

We billed it a "beta" event and we're now planning on 6, attending the main event in July. And no, we don't have tons of cash to do this type of stuff, in fact we only spent a few hundred bucks on the first event. The rest came from ticket sales and sponsors we hustled to get, so the event paid for itself. This first one wasn't profitable we almost broke even but the next one we're expecting to be wildly profitable based on what we learned from the first one and how much better set up we are now.

Thanks Joe! PS - That guy in the red hoodie in the photo? That's Peter Vesterbacka, creator of Angry Birds. Yeah, we got him to come from Finland and speak at our conference. It's amazing what you can do if you hustle a little. The concept behind Content, Inc.

You can then learn about your audience, their pain points, and the solutions that they would really pay money for. Content, Inc. By following this formula, you have a story to tell that will stand out from the clutter. The strategy recommended here takes you from being a nobody to being a Joe Pulizzi, Michael Stelzner, or Ian Cleary all whose stories are told in the book. That is the heart of the book, but there is so much more: Leveraging influencers, repurposing, speaking, book writing, monetizing, etc.

I was asked to read this book by our CEO and borrowed it from our company library, but within the first chapter, I wanted my own copy so I could highlight and bookmark key areas. I loved the hype around this book and bought it instantly. I have to say, if you've been in the digital marketing space for a year or more, you won't find anything too ground-breaking in this book.

I scanned it for about minute when I got it, and then returned it. However, if I had someone who was new to content marketing or digital business enterprises, I would have given it to them. It's still a good book, honestly! It's just not for intermediate level or beyond. Even if you're not a pro, I think you'd read through it and think "I kind of already knew that". Seasoned online entrepreneurs might think, "If you're not using the business model mentioned here, where have you been the last ten years?

It's been tribe-building before selling for a very long time. You just have to do it for a while to nail your audience, style, tone, platform channels, etc. You won't be a pro blogger over night, of course. And the technical side isn't all that technical if you get a wordpress plugin like Yoast. As for non-textual content, there are millions of epic tutorials on this. If you want all that conveniently put into one book, this is it. Buy it. FYI, I listened to this book first. Narrated by the author, Pulizzi delivers a comprehensive yet somehow concise guide that will benefit beginners and pros alike.

Certainly this approach turns every other business model on its ear, but he backs it up with a myriad of examples of entrepreneurs who did just that. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Joe Pulizzi's Content Inc is so far the best book on Content Marketing I have read so far, and I have read them a lot as a CEO of content marketing software startup, speaker, trainer and consultant. At least Pulizzi's thought are quite aligned with mine:- Content Inc is not only about content, content marketing and content marketing strategy.

It's also about strategy. How to build a business the new way, building audience first, and then the product. Although not mentioned in the book, similar approach of building audience of a sort first, and then product has been recently used very successfully by e. Slack, team communication app. Slack was valued to 2. But they started building audience year before launch and were able to launch the product to 15 fans.

If you are a marketer just looking for quick "how to bluff your way into content marketing" -book, look elsewhere. But if you are a Chief of something, entrepreneur or even a solo consultant, this might just be the best book on marketing this year.

This book is also available as an audio book from Amazon's Audible. I "read" it by listening audio version, but also bought paper version for desk reference. Report abuse. The story of how Europe was converted to Christianity from AD until the barbarian Lithuanians finally capitulated at the astonishingly late date of It is an epic tale from one of the most gifted historians of today. This remarkable book examines the conversion of Europe to the Christian faith in the period following the collapse of the Roman Empire, to approximately when the hegemony of the Holy Roman Empire was firmly established.

Like Alan Bullock and Simon Schama, Fletcher is a historian with the true gift of a storyteller and a wide general readership ahead of him. Not that I've ever really lost faith in humanity, but it's the kind of book that would make you think: faith in humanity restored! Jan 05, Camilo Rodriguez rated it it was amazing. Liked this book a lot, planning to re-read it to implement about 25 good ideas I got from it! I knew a lot of this but the style was really engaging and I did end up with a bunch of notes and some food for thought. While twitter is no longer the great thing it was when this book was written seriously, the advice to ignore the trolls works great when you're a white male, not so much for anyone else where being ignored often leads to escalation , creator monetization i I knew a lot of this but the style was really engaging and I did end up with a bunch of notes and some food for thought.

While twitter is no longer the great thing it was when this book was written seriously, the advice to ignore the trolls works great when you're a white male, not so much for anyone else where being ignored often leads to escalation , creator monetization is now a thing, trade shows have now gone virtual, and of course there's nothing about the newest kid on the block TikTok, there's still a lot of value to be had Bought on a whim while passing through Chicago Midway.

Glad I did. Reading this book was more like a conversation with the authors - quite refreshing in the world of business books. This book was a simply honest book on marketing, and how the principles of building relationships still hold true no matter how fast technology changes. I think my big takeaway was setting up a funnel that leads potential leads to whatever action you have defined. Jan 04, Zennie Holmgren rated it liked it.

Some interesting ideas but haphazardly put together I really liked some of the ideas in the early chapters but then the book jumps from the characteristics of the current marketing world right into specific tactics. Just a well written book. This isn't just a book about doing business the right way. It's about how to truly relate to people when doing business. To focus on what others want. It's about how to engage. Every chapter is packed with eye-opening information, a lot of which goes against the old-school marketing concepts that have been so deeply engrained in our minds.

He demonstrates directly what he's talking about, and not just with past examples, but in the most effective way conceivable: he makes you his fan. See, as I was reading his book, I found myself checking out each and every link. I subscribed to his newsletter. He embraces every word he writes. Scott Stratten walks his talk like nobody else.

I sent him a tweet. He replied immediately. Try it. Just mention unmarketing on Twitter. He's the guy who makes you feel like he's your friend. Not only does he make you want to buy every product he has to offer, he makes you want to evangelize it as well! He makes you want to write a five-star review, like I'm doing now.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could affect people the same way? Read this book. Even if you don't own a business--It doesn't matter. I'm an author, nevertheless, almost everything he wrote still applied. And the one or two chapters that didn't, like the chapter on trade shows, were so funny and entertaining, I didn't skip a word. Buy this book. I promise you won't be disappointed. One person found this helpful. I'm only partway through. I enjoy this! I'm only partway through, but this is a great resource.

The author is accessible on social media, and he and his wife have a terrific weekly podcast The Unpodcast - I'm one of the loyal 6 listeners he talks about. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to this upcoming revised work. This book explains the effect of social media on products, brands, and services. People have a way to express their satisfaction or dissatisfaction in a companies products that reach sympathetic people who repeat the story.

Not being part of the conversation is detrimental to your business either way. The whole point of unmarketing is to encourage businesses to stop shouting their wares and forcing people to listen to what they have to stay, but get people talking about products positively through natural conversation. This is the evolution of advertisement. Little did I know when I was assigned this book as required reading for my Social Marketing and Media class that I would be quoting it to all my marketing buddies!

Several times I found myself laughing out loud, partly for the author's snarky comments, and partly because he was speaking the gospel truth! This book is a must read for anyone who dabbles in any area of marketing. I've shared this book with many of my colleagues, some very seasoned professionals and some just-out-of-school newbies, and every single person has found this book to be an enjoyable read with valuable take-aways.

I strongly suggest that you check him out on Twitter and start changing your perception of marketing! Good book on social media marketing, but being part of the younger generation, not much of this was groundbreaking material for me. Great book, makes a different -and very logical- argument than those espousing automation and continuous posting many social media "gurus" are making online.

Scott talks a lot about engagement, relationships and authenticity. And it really resonated with what I -and I think lots of others- find missing from companies in their online presence. After seeing Scott speak in Las Vegas, I had to buy his book. I hate the "do what I say not what I do" people. Scott is NOT one of those - he took stage sick as a dog and delivered a great presentation.

He doesn't tell you how to do magical things, he details how he reached conclusions, how he executed theories and details the real world outcomes. This book is a punch in the face to "Marketers". It's a kick in the pants to those like me who just need to get to doing what we know we need to be doing! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.

Translate all reviews to English. Scott has written an excellent book on marketing and marketing theory - providing real-life examples from his own experience. This book is nicely broken down into several short chapters explaining in good detail both strategies and methods. His focus on the importance for customer service encourages you to make sure all your employees are trained and excel in that area. Scott highlights several mistakes other companies have committed as a result of poor customer service - all resulting in a loss of customers, and therefore revenue.

I had more than 10 years' experience in marketing when I read this book and I still learned a great deal from it. Sicherlich sind Facebook, Twitter, usw. Translate review to English.
